Spread Love, not the Virus

Two important public service reminders for this Labor Day long weekend, courtesy of some compassionate SF brothers and sisters:

1) Spread love, not the virus.

2) Black Lives Matter.

I get it -- we all want to mentally move on and have a "normal" summer weekend for once. I do, too.

But our mental done-ness with these dueling, raging pandemics sadly does not make them go away, nor absolve us from acknowledging our universal interconnectedness.

So, as you seek to spend quality time outdoors or in good company this weekend, please remember:

1) The most compassionate thing you can do in the time of COVID, to do your part to help avoid another surge, is to mask up, wash up, and physically distance. True love and meaningful connections know no bounds and can definitely transcend masks, gloves and 6 feet of distance.

2) Our work must continue to learn about and amplify the voices and lived experiences of our black brothers and sisters. To continue to seek out justice for those who have fallen due to grave injustice -- for simply having more melanin in their skin than the dominant race in power. In May, the quest started again with George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, but the need for justice continues for Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, and now Jacob Blake and Daniel Prude, and far too many more to list here. We owe it to them to #SayTheirNames and #HonorTheirLives in ways that ensure that this terrible trend does not claim anymore innocent lives.

Because remember: their lives mattered just as much as we believe ours do.

And, in the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members."

May we be the ones who rise up to lift up our most vulnerable members, each doing what we can to help keep one another safe, healthy, and empowered.

🙏🏼💖😷✊🏽✊🏿
